Urushi on Clayboard

Urushi (the Japanese name for lacquer) is is a viscous fluid organic material that comes from the milky sap of several varieties of an Asian tree. Urushi products can last hundreds of years while retaining their glossiness, smoothness and elegance. Their colors do not fade with the impact of light and time, and amazingly, as the years go by and the pieces age, their colors keep getting deeper and become more luminous. Artists mix urushi with color pigments and various natural dyes. Other embedding materials can be used, such as eggshell, mother-of-pearl, plant fibers, sand, and gold and silver leaf.

I am so pleased to showcase the exciting works of Nhat Tran during the November Gallery Walk, November 10 and for the full month. Her most recent exhibition was at Yamawaki Gallery, Kyoto Gallery, and Kitakata City Museum of Art. Tran was commissioned by The Indianapolis Airport Authority for a large urushi lacquer mural, On the Tip of Our Wings, completed in September 2008 and inaugurated in October 2008, for the New Indianapolis Airport.

This was a commission work completed at the client's request. The couple saw Jeong Han's work in the gallery and wanted a larger work for their space. Jeong Han finished the new piece within a week and shipped directly to the client in Peoria.

Another abstract work from Greg Huebner.  I like the energy and movement through this work. It reminds me of the movement of the baton, from a conductor would have in reaching the allegro of a symphonic work.

Laurie Wright, Columbus, will be the featured artist for the Eye On Art Gallery October Gallery Walk. Laurie's unique color silk screen prints are in many corporate collections around the state. Her works are experiments in shape and color and never predictable. Colors complement each other as she works  in bright and saturated primary colors .

Sam Dolman

Two cows find their way into Carmel and were spotted in Eye On Art Gallery. The amazing paintings by UK painter, Sam Dolman are now on exhibit. The 20"x24" paintings are framed in 4" gold leaf frames

September Gallery Walk

I wanted to display a combination of art pieces that work well with classic design. Here I am showing the sculpture (Mic Mead) and painting (Jerry Points) with the classic Red Eames Lounge Chair.
